“„На гости на третата планета” е комична история за група от четирима изследователи от друга планета, които пристигат на Земята, за да ни изучават. Преди да дойдат на нашата планета, извънземните не знаят почти нищо за нас. Всъщност за тях ние сме нещо като вредни паразити, а „планетата” ни е просто третата скала откъм слънцето. За да могат да се впишат сред нас, те приемат човешка форма и се преструват, че са хора... доколкото това им се отдава!
Върховният командир Дик (Джон Литгоу) е събрал елитен отбор от “експерти” (всъщност извънземните са всичко друго, но не и експерти, но това е друга тема): военен (Сали), психолог (Томи) и Хари. Трудно е да се определи в каква област той е специалист... просто защото такава няма!
Идеята на сериала е, че извънземните ни изучават, като в същото време се преструват, че са едни от нас. В началото това им създава големи трудности, защото те така и не могат да се впишат подобаващо и вършват един куп щуротии в опитите си да бъдат „нормални”. Впоследствие четиримата успяват да вникнат и да изследват в дълбочина нашия живот и вече много по-добре се преструват, че са хора. Но в този момент мисията им минава на заден план... защото се оказва, че да си човек не е чааак толкова лошо!
„На гости на третата планета” се състои от 6 сезона и общо 139 епизода. Премиерата на сериала е през 1996г. в САЩ. Поредицата има 2 награди „Златен глобус”, 8 награди ЕМИ и още над 15 награди в най-разнообразни категории.
