A Metal-opera. Aha. Tobias Sammet (front-joker of EDGUY) has created an album all on his own that without exaggeration is among the best that the genre of Power Metal has spawned in a long time! And it is epic and monumental enough to go through as an opera.
But don't fear, there won't be any fat ladies singing, but you will get some of the best voices that Metal has to offer. Here just the names of the participants, which should speak for themselves: Michael Kiske (Ex-HELLOWEEN), David DeFeis (VIRGIN STEELE), Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY), Andrй Matos (Ex-ANGRA), Oliver Hartmann (AT VANCE), Sharon van Adel (WITHIN TEMPTATION), Rob Rock... Any more questions?
Embedded into a grand concept Tobi has created another pinnacle of European/German Power Metal, with driving double-bass-crackers, epic choirs, emotional passages, atmosphere, everything is featured at its best here. Sure, there are more than enough bands, which play this style, but not on such a premier level!
"Reach Out For The Light", "Breaking Away", "Farewell", "Avantasia", the brilliant "Sign Of The Cross" and the almost ten-minute "The Tower" (and all the other songs as well) are prime examples for this album being a hot contender for the title of "album of the year", and if only for the fact that Kiske is finally singing METAL again!!!
Avantasia - country of the light and the fantasy. Tobias Sammet has a fantastic world with its “Metal Opera” to create, with a beautiful history and a bombastischer music. In 13 titles the way of the young Novizen Gabriel is described after Avantasia. The music fits itself thereby into history around Anna hero, the stepsister in Gabriels, which is held as a witch accused in Mainz in the dungeon of the Dominikanermoenche. Gabriels an original goal was to be released it, because he is convinced of their innocence. By its own curiosity it however comes into the catches of the Inquisition, can however together with Lugaid Vandroiy, as Ketzer of an accused Druide, flees and comes unwillentlich into the other dimension - after Avantasia. There Regrin help to exist against the three clergymen - the Pope Clemens IIX, bishop Johann Adam von Bicken and Jakob, Gabriels of old Mentor - in the eleven Elderane and the dwarf. Because the three get ready to to lock the entrance to Avantasia and to always destroy it thereby.
Avantasia an absolute masterpiece is musical. For the occupation of the ten different roles of the work rekruitierte Sammet the cream power of the Metals and the instruments with the best their kind were likewise equipped. Thus melodischer power Metal results also easily classical influences, which never boringly and absolute attention requires.
The similarity of the voices is only frustrating something, because one can differentiate according to first hearing the individual characters hardly and according to the second time still problems in some passages has.
I discovered and was equivalent inspired the plate rather coincidentally. On these sides has I tries all relevant information to Avantasia to collect and in form bring.
