Spider-Man fights alongside his notorious enemies,
such as Green Goblin and Doc Ock,
as they try to defeat an even greater threat.

All of our Spider-Man: Friend or Foe looks have focused on one thing: cooperation.
Spider-Man and some of his enemies get locked into this war with an army of symbiote
monsters, and the new squad of buddies needs to fend off the evildoers, hold hands
and eat ice cream.
Today, we met up with some real, live friends, picked up the Friend or Foe controllers
and kicked the crap out of each other. Black Cat versus Sandman. Black suit Spider-Man
versus Venom. Blade versus the Lizard -- we saw it all.
In case this is your first time reading about Friend or Foe, we'll condense the
single-player story the best that we can. Mysterio has set his fishbowl-wearing
head on creating a hologram/symbiote crew to take over the world. To complete this
dastardly deed, he kidnaps the most powerful supervillains, slips a mind-control
amulet around their necks and unleashes them to find symbiote-containing meteor
fragments around the world.
Can you taste the foot cream?Spider-Man gets the-heads up on this plan from SHIELD
and starts globetrotting to wake up his rouges. The bad guys brawl with Spidey,
webhead breaks their amulets, and the foes become friends and join the quest.
You'll take Spidey and more than a dozen sidekicks -- folks such as Rhino, the
Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus -- to places such as Transylvania and Cairo as
you wail on these "Phantoms" and other assorted bad guys.
However, you probably knew all of that. Activision hasn't been shy about elaborating
on Friend or Foe's local drop-in/drop-out co-op, upgradeable attacks and
character-specific special moves. It's the Versus Mode we've never seen before.
Once you've unlocked them in the game, all 16 characters will be available for you
and a pal to duke it out with in the 14 locations packed into the mode.
Our first battle pitted black suit Spider-Man against Venom in the "Glider Factory"
at Oscorp, and quickly, it was clear the individual character attributes -- stuff
such as speed and strength -- would play a large role in character selection.
The round began, and Spidey leapt into the air and began firing web balls.
Venom took a pounding and tried to get to Spider-Man's elevated position,
but as our lumbering powerhouse made his move, the wall-crawler shimmied and
swung from our grasp. We'd jump, he'd zip and we'd get nailed.
You got knocked the heck out. These aren't cookie-cutter characters. We couldn't
use Venom like our opponent was using Spider-Man. Once we got smoked and came to
that realization, our attack plan changed. In the next round, we began grabbing
boxes and storage crates left around the level and hurling them at the web-head --
the game takes care of aiming the throws. Spidey'd get hit, fall towards the ground
and we'd unleash our Venom Spikes -- a move that jets out sharp impalers from the
symbiote -- as Pete's landing pad.
